In order to clean this piercing, the client is asked to rinse with an alcohol free mouth rinse. This destroys any bacteria on the inside of the lip. |
| The piercing site is thoroughly scrubbed with a non toxic surgical scrub. This removes any bacteria that may be present on the outside of the lip. |
The surrounding areas must be cleaned as well to avoid reintroducing bacteria. |
| The jewelry that will be used for the healed piercing is inserted into place to help the piercer and piercee determine where the piercing is to be placed. |
Once the positioning is determined, both the inside and outside tissue is marked with gentian violet. |
| The tissue is then gently massaged. This massage helps to loosen the skin. |
Forceps are applied around the piercing site. There should be minimum pressure applied to the forceps. |
| Once the forceps are in place, the needle is inserted. |
The jewelry is then transferred into the piercing. |
